Painted. 1938 was the exception to Senior series cars of the '30s having wood-grain dashboards.

My '38 7 passenger touring Twelve is very original and I would call it a dark Pewter. I will post a picture when I get a chance.

Mine is chromed metal. I am not sure if that is correct but I have a very early car. Advertising of the period seems to show wood grain (paint). It is metal not real wood.

1938 1601 (Eight), original and well cared-for. Image presents the color of the dash paint quite faithfully. I presume the Twelve used the same paint, and hope this is helpful. Just remember, different cameras and screens can impose their own bias on color.
