This 1938 Packard 1600 Four Door Touring Sedan was sold new by the Joy Brothers Packard Agency in Minnesota. The car remained in Minnesota until the 1960s when it was sold to its second owner in Michigan. The third, and current owner, purchased this Packard in 1986. After purchasing the Packard, the car was commissioned to a complete and professional restoration which was completed in the early 1990s. Since being restored, the car has been regularly used and always maintained.
Today, this Packard is in very nice condition and shows extremely well as a properly maintained, older restoration. The maroon paint shows extremely well with the exception of the passenger side, rear quarter that has some areas of wear and scuffing. Otherwise, the paint is very nice with a consistent, overall gloss. The body is extremely solid and straight throughout. All of the doors and hood are in proper alignment and have a good fit and finish. At the time of the restoration, the complete interior was done by Mark Larder, a well known and respected Michigan upholsterer. Today, the tan cloth upholstery is excellent throughout with the exception of a very minor (about the size of quarter) moth hole in the headliner. All of the chrome was re-plated at the time of restoration and is in excellent condition. The dashboard, gauges and steering wheel are in excellent condition. Mechanically, this vehicle has been maintained by Brian Joseph/Classic and Exotic Services in Troy, Michigan. Most recently, the brakes and cooling system have been fully serviced. The car is an absolute pleasure to drive. It starts easily whether hot or cold, idles great and runs down the road effortlessly. All of the gauges, lights, heater, wipers, and even the radio operate as they should. This car is light and nimble to steer and has properly adjusted and responsive brakes. It is much more responsive and agile than the larger series Packards. This car is equipped with a correct Packard radio, heater, clock and front grill guard. The engine number is A-22077 and the vehicle number is 1182 16039. The mileage shown is about 40,500. This car has been owned and cherish by its current owner for many years. It is time for him to pass this car on to someone else who will enjoy it. It is priced at a small fraction of his investment cost at 16,500.00. Included with the sale are books, an owner's manual, a custom car cover, receipts and photographs of the restoration, maintenance receipts, etc. This is a great opportunity to own a very affordable yet ready to use Packard that is ready to drive and enjoy.
