windshield washer system

I have the parts for installing a Trico windshield washer system on my 51 200. The pump and bottle top are in good shape except for the cardboard/paper on the bottom side of the lid. There is enough there to make a pattern - my question is should I make a new one out of a thin rubber sheet, or use paper gasket material? My concern with the latter is that the gasket material may deteriorate with the water and alcohol. Comments or suggestions?

I'm probably wrong but it seems like the purpose of the seal is to just not have it leak so I wouldn't think you would even need a gasket. The failure that my washer pump has is the spring corroded so the pump doesn't work. If anyone has a source for that long spring that would be useful.

At one time McVey (the Cadillac/LaSalle parts specialist) offered Trico washer parts and a complete pump rebuild service. Their current ad (in Hemmings Motor News) doesn't list the parts or service but it might be worth a call. (913)-722-0707. You might also try the Trico folks, Ficken Wiper Service (www.wiperman.com), they do advertise service for Trico pumps though generally they sell rebuild services and not parts.

thanks guys. I think I will make a rubber gasket, mostly to keep the lid from rusting. I will also check the spring in the pump!
