You don't say how long the car sets from the last time you started it. I've had no problems starting my car after setting a week.

Good afternoon...Here in the Arizona Desert, in the summer, if Miss Prudence sits for a week, she will start on the fourth four second crank every time...occasionally on the third crank. In the winter, when I drive her almost daily...she starts on the first four second crank...Ernie

The situation generally occurs after the car has been sitting overnight.

There are two one way valves in the fuel pump one on the outlet side could be stuck open causing the gas to drain back into the the tank. Not to sure, if you have a spare pump (and if you don't good time and reason to get on) just swap them out and see what happens.

I'd think it unlikely that fuel could run back from the carburetor bowl thru the pump to the tank, isn't the fuel in the bowl at a lower level than the fuel inlet? I'd consider a non-functioning fuel bowl vent which would allow the fuel in the bowl to percolate out thru the main jets into the manifold and then evaporate.

Yes OD but I'm thinking the fuel filter bowl
mounted at the carburetor and it's being sucked from there, never know. Wes

Thanks for the comments. You've given me a lot to ponder. My biggest takeaway from this is that the glass bowl should remain full under normal circumstances - whether the engine is running or not - unless I run out of gas.

Had this issue sometime back on one of my cars, could not figure it out. Checked the old rubber gasket on the filter bowl assembly, and noticed it had been squeezed and swollen to covere most of one or both of the holes in the top, so that's an easy check.
