Today I installed new voltage regulator.
The car is now showing charging for 1st time
It pegged over to the right
After a bit it dropped down to about 3/4.
After driving 35 minutes it showed discharge when I turned off engine.
Also now the temp guage will not work
I checked the block temp with my heat gun it showed 185 degrees.
Does that seem acceptable?
This is actually the 1st timeII have driven the car and I am not sure what to expect.

I would really suggest you either write all the posts about your car in the same project blog with the year and model in the title or put your car in your signature. So when people read your posts they instantly know which car you are talking about.

On most cars, if you have a helper sit in the driver's seat you can ground the sensor wire to the engine block for perhaps one second and you will see the gauge needle. Jump up. If that does not happen then your gauge is bad. If it does happen then your sender is bad or you have a bad connection between the sender and the wire.

My advice on any old car electrical problem take off all connection terminals and clean them get small wire brush( harbor freight has them cheap) only take small amount of oxidation to hamper proper operation.

As PGH suggested, do a couple of tests to see why your temperature gauge isn't working. Here's a Youtube video that may be helpful.

Your block temp seems okay. If your car gets too hot it will boil over, but good to get your temperature gauge working so you can continually monitor your engine's temp.
