I was going to check the timing on my 55 Patrician. I checked the manual, but it didnt say whether or not to unhook the vacuum advance. Any ideas? Also, do you retard the timing for the modern gas? Thanks, Steve

On my 55 Pat, I always disconnect the vacuum advance to set the timing. I do it at the 4GC carb because it's easier to get to.

My 55 Pat has 1956 heads, so it's supposed C.R. is 9.5:1. I can use 87 Octane with no problem at stock timing. If yours is stock, then it is supposed to be 8.5:1 and should be really no problem with the cheapest gas you can buy. Oh yeah, the local gas is 10% ethanol all year around, FWIW.
