On my 55 Pat, I always disconnect the vacuum advance to set the timing. I do it at the 4GC carb because it's easier to get to.
My 55 Pat has 1956 heads, so it's supposed C.R. is 9.5:1. I can use 87 Octane with no problem at stock timing. If yours is stock, then it is supposed to be 8.5:1 and should be really no problem with the cheapest gas you can buy. Oh yeah, the local gas is 10% ethanol all year around, FWIW. Craig
