I am in need of a trunk lid emblem as shown. I don't find any part number, but the car is a Clipper 1956 DeLuxe four door sedan. Any suggestions?
Tom

I also have a 1956 Clipper Deluxe (RHD). It doesn't have a badge like that on the trunk lid. It has two long "Deluxe" badges on the front guards, just above the stainless trim strip. Mine does have a small "Packard" badge at a 45deg angle on the lower right rear of the trunk lid, and a "Clipper" badge underneath the trunk lid release assembly.

I can't tell from your pic where on the trunk lid that "Deluxe" badge is located. Legend has it that Packard added the small "Packard" badge in 1956 to placate unhappy sales people and/or potential owners. Don't know if all 1956 Clippers had it - I have not seen any without it, but then I have not seen many - period.

Is there a part number for a "Packard" badge for the trunk lid? Given it was an afterthought, it's possible it never made it into the documentation.

See a pic of the rear of mine, below.

Cheers

Brian

I am curious about the script but here is the part number.

According to the parts manual the model name script was only used on the 55s. That would make me wonder if either a dealer installed the Deluxe script or, could have sometime in the cars life a 55 trunk lid have been installed. I believe the lids will interchange as far as size and opening shape but not 100% sure.

Does your trunk lid have the squared off look of a 56 or the rounded bulge in the middle area typical of the 51-55 lids. In addition to B.wilsons photos of his 56, here are some photos from the archive showing the two style lids. Unfortunately the only photo of a 55 Deluxe trunk is rather poor but the Super would be the same except for script name.

The emblem is located on the right side with the angle shown on the picture.

If it is a 55 script, Packards1 shows one on his ebay store.ebay.com/itm/1955-Packard-Deluxe-Script- ... h=item56bed5acbe:g:Z2sAAOSwip5cG8a0

I do not believe that was a factory offering. From your position description it sounds like the place the retrofit Packard script would have been placed. It is possible a dealer or a previous owner that might have installed it could have used another year script. There are some other Deluxe scripts on ebay but those are for earlier years so there is a styling and size difference to watch out for.

It sounds like the "Deluxe" badge on your car might have been a later addition. But since you have found the missing "D", maybe just go with that! Who will know the difference?

I'm not sure if the "Packard" badge is similar size or same hole spacing.

I believe the "Packard" badge was delivered in some cases after the cars were sold. Dealers may have neglected - or been too lazy - to organise fitting them, although most 1956 Clippers seem to have them now.

Cheers
