IIRC the pickup is a piece of steel tubing that goes from the female flare connection on outside of tank to that small 3-4" depression on the bottom of tank about a third to halfway back. Can't remember exact detail but I believe it has a bend that raises tube end a bit off the bottom of the depression but not very far.

No. The tube is clamped to frame until dogleg behind rear axle then comes across about a foot bends in and down and screws directly into tank.

Thank you. I couldn't remeber. I had replaced the original tank with a stray of unknown origin some 10 years ago and could'nt remeber original configuration.
Amazing. The tank on the outside was as clean and shiny as if it were fresh off the dealer shelf. INside it was as if someone had filled it with Sulphuric acid and let it set for 40 years.

I believe you. I've seen scale on inside flaking off in big quarter size chunks.
