Spud
Had to replace some of the main fuel line. From tank to under front door. I have a connection. Fuel boils out. Is my guess. California gas does not have heat modifiers. Our, dumb f, California Air Resources board. . If it idles for long periods it will just stop. , got towed yesterday. Would not run. . In the morning it started it..

Maybe you're sucking in air through the connection?
Is it ran in the same location as the factory stuff? You could probably just wrap it with exhaust tape and be fine. Like the straight eight cars. I ran a new aluminum line for the deluxe and I have had it up to temperature, though I've never had it idling super long to compare to what you're talking about. But for what it's worth, I've never had any problems with vapor locking or it not wanting to start after being shut down hot.

I checked for leaks, and couldn't see any.
When I drive and get gas, or any short stops, it will start right up. If I'm gone long, starting it is a bear. Never had this, with 90s gas, but California keeps f.ing with it. And when these blocks get hot, That's California’s bs. They want gas to evaporate. They don't want vapor, lingering. So us out here are getting less miles per gallon, cause it evaporates.

Connected it at original under front door.
I also have been getting bucking, under load. Pulling a hill. Everything relates to gas. Carter fuel pump, Rochester carb. Packard stuff. Friends have given me their Edelbrocks carbs , haven't had time to see what mods I need. The Australians have no problem with Edelbrock.

Watched a video on different filters
So this one, gm used, Ford maybe So it releases vapor. So I'm thinking of modifying the air cleaner and have it vent into air horn with a check valve. They say its mainly for the fuel pump. But one video has the filter next to the carb.. That car has a closed system.

A number of cars used a vapor bypass type fuel filter under the hood between the fuel pump and carburetor. These filters came in glass bowl types on late 50s and 60s Buicks and Cadillacs and some others, and steel can types later. Such a filter will have 3 connections instead of 2. The vapor bypass connection is usually smaller than the other two, and is connected to a return line that goes back to the gas tank, NOT the carburetor! Inside the filter there is a small orifice that allows some gasoline and any bubbles of vapor to escape back to the tank via a separate return line. The bypass also prevents high pressure buildup in the fuel line to the carburetor due to high under-hood heat in traffic or after shutting down. These filters need to be mounted in the proper orientation to allow vapor to bypass. They will bypass a portion of the fuel pump's gasoline flow, which helps move vapor bubbles out of the system and helps cool the fuel pump and the fuel reaching the carburetor. One steel canister type filter that might be available is WIX # 33957. There are a few glass bowl types offered online at outrageous prices. You MUST have a return line back to the gas tank to use one of these filters as intended. These type filters were common on carbureted cars late 50s thru about 1972, especially the V8 air conditioned cars.

Did you check that your existing filter is not clogged?
