I'm kina in the road she will not start as she is in gear. May have to tow but am worried about dragging her onto a flatbed.

Need to determine where the problem is as there is a couple possibilities. This is an older car illustration but still similar. First disconnect linkage at steering end (3.3276) and see if lever moves. If it does, reconnect there and remove at trans end (3.5899). Where it is hanging will determine next step.

HH Thanks I hope the linkage is out of adjustment as the ultramatic has been shifting a little hard but has been dropping into reverse very good. No tools here and the tow truck as arrived. Hope for the best..

You can start it by connecting the two brown wires together at the neutral safety switch on steering column. IIRC it is a few inches from dash on steering column. BE CAREFUL & KEEP FOOT ON BRAKE IF YOU DO because you will be in gear when it starts. Not sure if stuck in reverse, will do much good but might be able to get off road..

EDIT Put rear wheels on wheel dollys and tow forward. Don't tow any distance with front wheels only on pavement!!

HH It does not appear to be in any gear, plan on pulling onto a car carrier flatbed. When engine running could not move shifter either

If not in any gear when started yet shift lever positioned in reverse kinda leads into trans. When you can, disconnect the rod linkage at trans end and try moving the lever going into trans and see what happens. You should feel several solid firm detents as you move thru the ranges. If what I halfway suspect, you won't & linkage will be almost in a straight line.

Sounds like the screw through the diecast piece loosened up or fell out. If you can't feel any detent then you have to drop the tranny pan to verify. I had that happen once and drilled into the shaft to provide a better seat for the screw and was careful when tightening up the locknut so I didn't strip the diecast piece.
