A nice front view pic of a '37 120 Convertible Sedan in the latest Cormorant News Bulletin compelled me to revisit the CD-138 sport sedan what-if and see what a convertible sedan might look like on the extended chassis. The result seems a bit longish in the body when viewed in profile but would probably look pretty dramatic in 3D. I like it, hope you do too.

What struck me most was the ease with which the car could have come together back in the day (and still can today). The only new tooled or fabricated parts would have been the rear quarters. Even the decklid is borrowed from the standard coupe.

I think a longer top well is in order to avoid that awkward German "pile of sticks" look with roof down

True, although you then get a big tent in back when the top is up. This car is mainly about top-up sporty style.

Hey I got a spare 1937 158" 120 chassis spare with 4 37 120 conv sedan doors if someone is up for the challenge. Let me know if you are.

Don't want to cut up my 1937 138CD Limo tho. Going to keep that one original.

Wish I was in a position, really love the concept. There's a CD-138 restoration in the Project Blog coming together that was the type of candidate needed... extremely rough shape, had been modified in other areas, could have been restored to any number of different body styles for same ballpark cost as bringing back to original.

The odds of finding another CD-138 in similar shape are probably slim. I do recall one sold last year that had a great body but had been hot-rodded underneath. Perhaps it wouldn't have been too sacrilegious to modify the body while bringing the mechanicals back to original.

The car you are referring to is my car I bought in Renton Washington about a year ago. It had a rebuilt Packard engine installed this week. The body is in great shape except for the trunk floor which I am taking a good floor out of a 120C 1092 sedan I am parting out. ( have sent several parts to Ken's 37 1082 project) On another note I will be traveling to Detroit maybe 2-3 times during the next month as I am having a large tool built at a fixture shop in Fraser. I will be buying it out and seeing to it's shipment to Ohio. If you would like too I could meet you at the Packards Restaurant next to the Packard Proving Grounds for lunch or dinner and we can talk Packards or cars in general as I work for an OEM.
