The associated German-speaking newspaper article reports that the transformation from solid rubber tires to pneumatic tires known from horse carts starts on trucks. The Packard Y-Type truck (3 tons) is a forerunner in the US.

Hi Guscha

Thanks for the look into this early period. Photo 004 shows the Twin-Six assembly operation. It doesn't appear as if the line was made to mechanically move, only be shifted onto the next position manually when that part of the assembly was complete. That was very common for high-priced cars like the Twin-Six in that era. The Single Sixes were built on a moving assembly line, as would the Twin-Six-successor Single Eight.

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

Hi Steve,
thanks for your kind support. Without detail knowledge it would be just a picture-book.
Today a very early crane, delivered from Packard to the United States Marine Corps during the war. Permissible maximum weight for the crane is 3 tons, while the Packard is a 5 tons truck. Compared to a modern truck-mounted crane I can't see a big difference. Everything is already at the proper place.

The press congratulated Packard in 1919 on a "remarkable construction" and call it the "perfect window regulator".
