V-8 Packards don't need those swim platforms, Dick Teague would roll in his grave.

Good taste is the modesty of the mind; that is why it cannot be either imitated or acquired.

Here is an advertising brochure for an extremely rare and almost immediately discontinued Packard -- the 1955 Sargasso. This model was meant to bridge the convertible gap between the Caribbean and the Clipper line. Rather than the continental kit on the back of the car, the Sargasso chose instead to revive the elegant side-mounted spares with attractive rear-view mirrors! The Sargasso was also the most powerful production car in the world, offering a supercharged V-8 with more than 500 horse-power. And finally, passengers in the rear seat could watch a small television set, which could receive transmissions via a small trunk-mounted antenna.

Only one or two Sargasso prototypes were released and the only surviving one is believed to be in the possession of a Mexican drug lord or a prince in Dubai.

You can make a lot of really neat things from the parts left over after you rebuild your engine ...

Now, now ... It was only meant as a joke. I do not advice Packard owners to actually try to convert their cars into Sargassos. And besides, Randy, I never inhaled ...

This mounting and bumper scheme might look better:

MrB- love that Sargasso story! Too bad the designer didn't go next to HotPoint.

I too agree that this is a better adaptation. Can anybody photo shop that on a senior Packard just for grins and giggles.
