Welcome Bob and Joyce. What a beautiful car. I agree with Brian - I like the lines on that model. I hope those familiar with the shifting problem can help you to resolve it.

Roger -

Thank you for referencing my post in that thread, as I had forgotten about it. In that one message, I had tried to cite the most relevant bulletins because the 1937-42 installment of the Service Index was still under construction, at that time. However, that post does provide the reader with a one-stop point of reference for what now appears to be a fairly common issue.

Again, the running design changes should have all been incorporated into the 22nd-23rd Series cars, but those articles do provide important points to check on all years using that equipment - 1939-50, as Mal pointed out.

In the final page of that thread, member BDeB also provides good photos of the shift fork and interlock block details.

Perhaps most important of all are the photos provided by Joe Santana, showing what he found and the text detailing what he did to resolve his problem - though it may not be the same outcome for all vehicles.

Thank you everybody for the warm welcome and information. There are some fine looking Packards posted on this site. A couple days ago I lubed the lower assembly
while I was working on it. Today Joyce and I were tinkering with the Packard and I had her move the shifter back and forth while I watched it. I didn't see any thing to get excited about. After Joyce got out I got in and pulled the shifter back and up toward reverse. It popped right in, I couldn't believe it. I took it for a spin around the neighborhood and it shifts just fine. Then when I came on here I see Packardtaximan's post suggesting to do what I did
previously. To be honest I would have done as he suggested
not expecting the results I got. Maybe it will work for others. In my case it took a while for the lube to work.

Hi! Craig I remember seeing your car a few times and it is a beauty. Are you going to the Misquite show? If you do we will see you there. We are taking the Packard.
