Hi

WHY? Greed on the part of the seller, narcissism on the part of the buyer, and a complete lack of historic appreciation on the part of both.

But, here's some real Contours for a buyer who prefers his Packard be all Packard:

A '52 200 sedan, plain-Jane but nice shape except gold grille:

That nice '52 Mayfair still available:

An elegant gray '54 Clipper sedan ready-to-enjoy:

That can't be a '52 Mayfair, can it? Wrong windshield, but it does have the grille teeth.

Perhaps my memory is failing me but I seem to recall that the 51/52 Convertible and Mayfair had squared corners on the windshield, which the rest of the carline didn't get until 1953.

Hi Gentlemen

My 1954 Shat-R-Proof Auto Glass Replacement book shows usage and part number interchange for 1940-1954.

Windshield (W234) is used by all 1951-54 hardtops and convertibles. For sedans, only 1951-52 use (W193), rounded upper corners, in common. Then 1953-54 sedans use (W312), the squared upper corner unit. Although the latter looks the same as the hardtop/convertible unit, it isn't.

It surprises me they didn't fit the hardtop/convertible windshield for sedan use throughout to save tooling costs from the get-go.

Learned a new thing, that's interesting. Too bad they used the rounded windshields for the sedans, it would save me some work to come up with a replacement.
