A rebuild super 8 engine and transmission plus starter, generator, ignition system, oil cooler etc. And on top of that the modifications that has been made to accommodate the V8. The electric system that undoubtedly has been turned to 12 volt.
Just a shot from the hip but calculating time, parts, supplies and all probably in the $20-25k range. But on the bright side you have a big block chevy to sell (I'm not fond of the bow ties so we call it scrap). I guess Tim Cole is fairly accurate in his price. That would bring the car in the mid to high $30's.

A nice 39 110. Under the hood is still the straight 6 but it looks like a convert to 12 volt with the modern alternator. Also the heater hose is not connected (goes from the water pump to the head).

A 1948 roadster prototype? I've never heard of this car, maybe someone else knows more about it:

BDC, though the seller makes the claim, I don't believe there is any credible evidence that Packard Motor Car Co. had any role in this creation. Maybe someone else has information to the contrary....

Hi

That poor Custom Eight keeps popping up like a bad penny. We discussed it in detail on this thread:

https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=11872&

Of course, this dealer isn't interested in the truth, only the healthy profit he'll glean from the inflated price.

If someone wanted to recreate the 22nd Series Monte Carlo, then that would be a worthwhile project.....though probably ultimately unprofitable. In honor of the late Mr. Neal, if he didn't discover and document it, it didn't exist.

I do agree on the line from the ad "Outrageous deal on this sleek 1948 Packard Von Rudolph Roadster Convertible", they would be doing good to get even half of their asking price, When you hear the word prototype you think "factory built", this was a custom chopped car non-factory made car in all probability and not too good looking at that. Packard would have published photos of this if this was a "true factory" prototype. Red 356 engine? 1950's Motor wire wheels? I'd rather have a real 22nd series Custom Eight convertible any day of the week over this creation

Hi

Rather than an overpriced '48 fake 'prototype', complete your own "'53" Caribbean hardtop based on this '52 Mayfair which has had the rear wheelhouses radii-used (?) to start the process. Fitted with '54 Pacific/Convertible fender spears and taillights, Continental kit, '54 Senior grille.....just don't call it a prototype! Something of a period custom with factory parts.

Liking something different myself, its tempting! Mentions $6,500 within the ad, $4,200 in the heading; the latter is better......

Steve

While I'm here, a '53 Cavalier striking in red and white...unusual for sedan, though not unattractive:

Maybe an alternative to sending transmissions to the east coast? First I've heard of this vendor.
