i know the Mayfair. it came from Santa Rosa with another car for cheap. the guy that bought them is a great guy with a family and aa lowrider. he is putting a small block chevy in aa 53... he has alot of other projects. not all Packards. i was helping with stuff and i bought a straight 8 with ultramatic. he was going to chop the Mayfair. but i think his wife got some sense into him...

he has a 53 four door parts caar. too. and lots of parts. i am going out there again this weekend.

Whatever you can talk somebody into paying, that's what it's worth. To them anyway. The market will decide. If it really is all original, then that car is pretty much a time capsule.

Hi

Four east coast choices for your consideration:

A '41 Custom Super 180 1907 touring sedan project, finish it up, have one great Packard:
http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/4913990126.html

A '46 Custom Super Clipper, discussed here before, excellent car, surprising its still available:
http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/4941900865.html

A '47 Clipper Six, looks good, 38K miles, driver condition:
http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/cto/4945363959.html

A '48 Custom Eight sedan in this group, check it out:
http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/4940475164.html

Steve

PS: Rusty, typically '51 Mayfair hardtops don't sell for that much but if its truly a 20K mile original and checks out in all respects, it comes as close to their asking price as any would. Looks to be a real gem to me. Not to knock 200 sedans but their very ubiquity works against their commanding higher prices. The flip side is they can be a real bargain for a very good car.

The Mayfair is very interesting as it is advertised as being original and stored since 63.

Note the upholstery as the striped plastic cloth inserts were supposed to be on the convertible (as per the facts book) and the dash instruments are wrong for a 250 Packard. One could argue that perhaps it was an early example of that model but then where did the grill teeth come from then? Back to the upholstery, there are no seams coming apart or 60+ year old leather becoming ashy and crumbly nor the drivers seat a little depressed? hmmm. Nice clear glass with no faded rough spots on the dash?

Hi

If you can wait until May 17th, the '48 Custom Eight in this current CL posting:

http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/4940475164.html

....will up for auction at Brookline, New Hampshire:

http://www.auctionzip.com/cgi-bin/auctionview.cgi?lid=2147999&fe=1362867&txtSearchKeywords=Packard&txtSearchZip=14836&idxSearchCategory=4&txtSearchRadius=0

Better check it out, it might be a decent car and sell for a cheap price.

Steve
