Our '50 Eight and '56 Executive were featured in the "Run What You Brung" car show sponsored by the Wildwood Casino in Cripple Creek, CO this past weekend 29-30 Sept. 2012. The Studebaker Car Club showed up represented by a dozen stunning cars including a '57 Packard Hawk. A local Packard enthusiast saw our cars and brought a beautiful 1932 Deluxe Dual-cowl Phaeton. I don't know if he is a member on PI, but I got his name and number and gave him the info to join this fantastic site (he said he had several other Packards, all just as stunning! Enjoy some pics of the cars and the autumn colors in the Colorado mountains:

Very nice. Hope the trip over was uneventful -- and do hope the roads are vastly improved now. Such gorgeous scenery in all directions.

When a kid, I remember a summer trip dad took us on thru a bunch of old mining towns - Cripple Creek, Gunnison, some other town with a large mining museum on the main road and several others with a few hundred people still calling them towns. This was in the mid 50's in a 51 Packard.

Each town was higher on the mountain than the last and the roads had more twists and turns for each one. We drove on some roads which were not much more than wagon trails -- 2 lanes if lucky and sheer drop offs. To the best of my recollection that Packard didn't flinch at any of them and hope yours didn't either.

Randy, thanks for your trip recollections and kind thoughts. Both Packards made the trip without a hitch. The roads are much improved, all paved and at least two lanes, although the altitudes haven't changed. From what I understand Cripple Creek had quite a nefarious past (houses of ill repute, gambling salons, etc). It's now full of casinos and is a major attraction in the area. This last weekend was supposed to be when the fall colors were at their peak. So much beautiful scenery and the trees weren't too bad either

I really like picture 4088. Shows us hows many shades of green are possible within this beautiful world of ours. Cool picture.
