bell housing - throwout lever

OK, we are looking at the opening in the bell housing for the throwout lever. There is a U-shaped wire that once held a canvas cover sewn around it.

There must have been a slot the width of the lever, but I am not sure how much travel to allow for.

Suggestions or a picture?

Thanks.

Here is a photo of mine. Unfortunately I have none when the engine was still uninstalled and easy to view. I bought this boot from Max but the sewing was a bit tight. I had to open some of the seams at the corners to get it installed over the wire and in particular, the slot over the lever was tight.

John Ulrichhttp://julrichpackard.com/clutch_transmission.htm also sells a boot but I don't know if his fits any better. It is a few dollars cheaper though.

Many thanks Howard. Not at all how I thought it was made.
And nice to know they are available.
