Forged pistons

Have a fresh .030 over 374 V-8 that I want to drop in my 56 Golden Hawk with overdrive. It presently has a set of Egge cast pistons without expansion struts. I contacted a well known piston company to check on price of a set of custom made forged pistons. Quote I got for eight flat top pistons, plus rings, pins and locks was over $1500, which is about $500 higher than I was expecting based on previous posts on this forum.

So my question is does $1500+ sound about right these days for a set of custom-made forged pistons with rings, pins and locks?

Thanks,
Curtis

Not sure about the price of forged pistons, but if you plan to actually drive the car, whatever you do, do not leave the EGGEs in.
Been there-done that a couple times, and they run hot for the first 25,000-30,000 miles, if installed at .002-.0025". If I absolutely had to run another set of EGGEs, the clearance would be set at around .005". The problem is, they tend to distort during sustained operation, and scrub the cylinder walls hard enough to heat the motor up.

Yes, that's too much. I've had several made can get a set of custom-made forged pistons with rings, pins and locks to your or my specs for $1,000.

Just a wild guess, but was your $1500 quote from Arias? They make great pistons but are always the highest.

Good guess - yes, the quote was from Arias.

Obviously I haven't done any comparison shopping yet, but I didn't particularly want to if they were all going to be the same price.

Any particular brand recommendation?
