The underseat heater constantly runs and in addition makes a clunking noise. For now I would like to simply disconnect it, and worry about fixing it later. How do I do that?

If it is a factory heater you can do one of three things.

1. Follow the power wire back from the heater and defrost switches to find the metal fuse holder and remove the fuse. If that cannot be found then --

2. Pull the wire connection apart at the heater. You can access the heater by pulling the front edge of the seat cushion up out of the frame and then slide cushion forward slightly to clear the back rest. It should slide forward enough to work or you can remove it. That will expose the heater where you can see if something is caught in the blades or pull the connector apart. NOTE the connector can be of two types. If it ha a round plastic connector, that type will pull apart fairly easily. If it has a sort of flat oval shape black plastic, that one is a Wade connector and those can be a real pain to disconnect if never done since leaving the factory. If it is a Wade type it may be less frustrating to disconnect the wire at the switch.

3 Disconnect the heater wire from the switch. There should be two identical switches -- one for defroster and one for underseat heater You can access them by working under the dash or remove the glovebox by opening the door and taking out the sheetmetal screws around the edges and removing the cardboard box. The wire should be on the far terminal at the end of the switch away from the dash but there is a chance power was connected there. If there is a short jumper wire connecting the heater and defroster switches at the same terminal on each switch, that is the power feed end so disconnect the wire at the other terminal.

If it is not a factory setup then you will need to determine what you have and follow the wire.
