What, if any, were the mechanical challenges of keeping two 6-cylinders balanced and in sync in a 12-cylinder Packard?

kind regards
Garrett

The 12 was built with one block and one common crankshaft so there was nothing per se to get out of sync. There was one 2 barrel carb and one distributor, albeit with dual points so there was nothing to get terribly out of whack. They are wondrously smooth and quiet when good. The valve gear could easily make a grown man cry; in their quest for silence they created something of stunning complexity.
