I wrote an instruction sheet for 1956 owners

Gang, I wrote this after going to help one of my customers with his car. He drove it to a local trans shop that claims to know old cars and old transmissions. They were to replace the band for high gear, that's all. They put everything back together and called him and said "that electric shifter does not work, come get your car" I went to see what the matter was, and was disgusted with what I saw when I looked under the car. The trans jockeys had cut all of the wires coming out of the pushbutton actuator and crimped on a series of slide-on spade connectors. They had allowed the control valve plunger to come out too far, and it was stuck most of the way out, preventing the plunger from working.

Print this sheet and take it with you should you ever have the misfortune to need transmission repair. The old guys are dying off and the quick-buck kids are taking over and they don't want to learn anything. Take this with you and go over it with the tech/owner. It will save you both a lot of grief.

The article is in the tech-tips folder.

John, it's already printed and in my glovebox. I don't need it but I have it there just in case. Drove the car last weekend to Shipsawana for the Packard meet and the 450 miles went by just fine at 70 mph.
