that was just from a quick search for black 7mm wire, came up with either copper or armid from O'Reilly's

Oreilly's does have regular wire, RSW5, the arimad is RSW1, i'm sure either would work with the electronic ignition.

i've read that copper or solid core wire causes issues with the petronix units.

i'm going to make a set of copper core for the points back up i'll keep in the trunk. (doubt i'll ever use it though)

i went with electronic as you can tell from the pictures. the install was easy and the maintenace will be low and it matches my petronix flame thrower coil.

distributer rotor and wires will be on order soon.

Hank

what is part number 440352. i don't see it in the parts list under delco distributor 4.0320

i don't remember this being on mine and it wasn't in the bag with my shaft to put back on.

the shaft does move up and down inside the distributor housing, is that part supposed to keep it stiff? i didn't take good pics of my distributor when disassembling like a dork.

thanks for the help.

edit: its the oil seal for the block to the distributer. would be nice if they included that in the list of parts like they did on the illustration. geesh...that hurt my brain.

incase noone noticed...i missed the little wire that connects to the body of the distributor and then to the same screw that holds the vacuum advance arm to the plate.

i found it and attached it.

i need to know what to make the vacuum advance gasket out of. there is a pretty good size gap in the center of the vacuum advance when mocking fitting it and i don't think just paper gasket will do.

als, thanks to an old post by OD, i didn't know i needed a piece of felt under the rotor cap to lub the shaft. had no clue.

OD, since you hve the petronix, i am curious to see inside of yours. can you post me some pics so i can see. also are you running the petronix coil as well? if so how did you do the wiring since there is no need for a 1.5ohm resistor?

thanks,

Hank

Henry,

i would put in a surge protector,,or a voltage regulator, inline somewhere. Don't know pert. makes one one,,Mallory does for there unalite, which i have.

copper wire you can't use in calif. (interferance). I had to get stainless wound.

exactly why you cant use it with the petronix...it doesn't like the interference and causes problems, so i have to use regular modern wire. factory Packard 440 wire is copper, thats why i brought it up. the petronix is magnetic (doesn't like interference from copper)...not optical like the mallory.

never knew there was a mallory unit for these cars. pictures would be nice. and a part number.

the car has a delco-remy voltage regulator already, but most cars do, is that what you are talking about? it mounts to the passenger's side of the radiator frame on the 55.

anyone use this wire set? are they angled boots on spark plug end or straight?

says not universal, say direct fit replacement.

if so that is CHEAP!

thanks for the pictures, clever setup! no need to scan anything, now that petronix has a setup that plops in. thanks for the offer though.

one thing...can you tell me how thick your felt is under the rotor. mine is MIA and i have to replace it and i don't want to make it too thick.

nothing is mentioned about doing a voltage filter on the petronix, maybe it doesn't bother it and/or petronix figured it out and don't require it. idk
