Removing Distributor

Guys, I need to remove the distributor. I detached everything to it, removed the hold down clamp and started working it out, but it would only come up about a 1/4 inch and stops, it rotates side to side freely. It is probably frozen in there but just wanted to make sure I wasnt missing something else obvious that packards had and chevy's did not.

Thanks
Bill

With everything removed as you say, it should just lift out with the shaft turning a bit as the gears disengage. However there is mention somewhere, perhaps Service Counselors or TSBs or shop manual, that removal is sometimes impeded by the buildup of sludge in the well, so you may want to use some gentle mechanical leverage.
