PackardV8 - Brandenburg is 150 miles north of Nashville. We are in the area of Fort Knox and the Ohio River.

patgreen - Black and white photography has it's place. Some pictures work in B&W and some don't.

I have "retired" from wedding and portrait photography though I am only 47. These days I work my own photography projects and with many of the fire departments in two counties. My soul sucking day job pays the bills.

The 400 is a terrific car and great choice for restoration. I might suggest you check out the "Henry's 55 Constellation" blog. He is doing a similar project on a 1955 Clipper Constellation. That site can offer a myriad of great suggestions and tips that couild prove invaluable.

Do you know of any of the professional photographers that would have been around in 1955 close to Fort Knox? Especially for Elizabethtown KY? I am looking for photos of the Pickerill dealership in E'Town, KY.

I read Henry's blog as suggested and WOW was it informative and kinda scary.
I do not know of any photographers from that time period but I'll see what I can do. I'm not just saying that as you have me curious now about a Packard dealership in my area. My wife and I make a hobby of local history and I have a library card in Elizabethtown ( a very handy tool). Having said that 'E-town' is 40 miles from us so it take some time to do any research. It might help if you could email me some more information that you might have.

Its been a few month since I've posted. I said back in February that it would be a while as I was waiting for my new shop to be built. I had to wait 4 month to work my way to the top of the builders list. My 400 was stored in a small garage that had no room for storage if parts were removed. It wasn't easy to keep my hands off of it.
The shop was completed about 3 weeks. The car is inside now but have been running electricity and constructing work benches ever since.
I did locate some needed parts so I have not been entirely idle. Found a pair of Taillight lens on Craiglist from a guy in a another state for $50.
I kept watching for a right side front turn signal lens to replace my broken one. Found nothing but left side lens for a few month so when one finally showed up I jumped on it. $125 may have been to much.
Found a pair of emblems for the sides of the roof on Ebay for $75. Mine are shot an the only other ones I has seen were $125 each so I was thrilled with this purchase.
Lastly I was browsing Mike Borths website and saw a speedometer for $70. Mine has a missing needle. Mikes shipment arrived two days ago. He sent me the whole instrument cluster, awesome!
All money spent so far is on pretty stuff because I knew what I needed. Now that I can start working on it soon I'll save my money for important stuff.

That's a really nice shop that you built. I wish I had gone with the barn red and white when I built mine years ago, but I opted for a more discrete tan and green. I look forward to following along on your Packard project.

Here are a couple more shots of my shop. The red is supposed to match the brick of the house. My wife tries to make everything symmetrical. Our house is 140 years old so it has to be just right.

Also a pic of the compressor I purchased and set up over the weekend.

The last pic is from the inside of the front fenders looking forward. Can someone tell me if those two screws right below the headlight have to come out to remove the fender?

I've seen some pics of Clippers on this site that looks like they did not remove that piece of chrome beforehand. If I try from this angle those bolts are going to break for sure.

i believe that is where the front grille side piece top chrome connects, so yes you need to get that off to remove the fender separately. if I remember correctly...they are studs treaded into the front chrome piece directly under the headlight. so worst case you would have to get new studs.

this is all coming from memory.
