Don't forget you've got a handbrake.

Ross I don't think my brake hoses were original but they were old and worn. Just ordered 3 new ones at Merritt

Hi

Though I have no claim to mechanical expertise, perhaps that emergency stop heated the brake fluid enough to boil it causing the loss of stopping power? Once the brakes had cooled, did they function again?

Steve, because I braked so hard it busted a rubber brake hose. But they were old enough to go straight to the Smithsonian!

Hi BDC

Glad you weren't injured and your Packard is undamaged but your experience is a caution for every Packard owner and all who maintain older cars for enjoyment: REPLACE YOUR BRAKE HOSES!

This along with new steel lines and properly rebuilt master and wheel cylinders is ESSENTIAL to enjoying your car and keeping your person and the lives of your passengers as safe as possible in today's congested traffic situation.
