i have thought of converting my 56 400, to a convert. since i got it 1979, rust above top rain gutter on roof, after seeing ross's clipper, and comments , and comments from this thread, i would put a piece of 3/4 plate across frame, from ft body bolt to rear 1/4, body would be one unit, and that should stiffen it up, the other bracing add what packard had or more, windshield area,, mod as to fit, top,, or vise verse a,, my thoughts..

Before I cut the roof off I'd remove the body from the frame, and then replicate the factory frame reinforcement which is both top and bottom sides of parts of the frame. And don't forget to remove the body mount cushions before you remount the body and cut the roof. No rubber body cushions on the convertibles, without the roof the body is too fragile for even that amount of movement!
