Can anyone verify if the Hash engine has a CAST Iron or STEEL cam shaft?????

I can tell you that it's made from a ferrous metal, but that's about it. I only have one out, it's 130 miles from me, and I might have tossed it, as two of the cam lobes wore so bad that they were perfectly round and destroyed the valve seats on those two valves. The valves were at least a 1/4" UNDER the seat area on the head.

hash is the shorthand used here for the 1955-early '56 Hudson and Nash which had the Packard V8.

Let me guess, it 's the 2wo lobes nearest the front of the engine and furthest away from the oil pump???? Quite possible then it is a steel cam

I wouldn't say that they're the furthest away, but they're up towards the front if I remember right. If it matters, this engine was run as an irrigation pump engine using propane.
