My 51 has a rubber insert in the spark plug loom, above the coil. It is housed in two pieces of metal, like a box. My 39 120 only has the bottom half of the box, except on the 39 it is more wedged shaped. First question, is there supposed to be a rubber insert similar to the 51? And if so, any suggestions as to where to get one? This is all Steele Rubber shows:

According to parts, 39 used the same 4.1111 two piece metal wedge shaped item as used thru 47..Believe that is just a box like enclosure which surrounds neatly laid parallel wires -- Nothing is specifically called for that I can see but there may have been a layer of insulation like material separating the wires from the metal. It would have to be thin because there is just slightly more height than the wires inside the box. All models also used 4.1109 rubber items similar to the one you linked to in the area over the head to hold wires together and guide them toward the plugs. Believe Packards was a 3 and a 5 hole combination but since Steele doesn't have the 5, maybe a couple of 3's and that Cadillac 4 hole could be used.steelerubber.com/spark-plug-wire-spacer-30-0313-21

Thanks Howard. That helps. I got a roll of metallic core cable yesterday and when the parts stores open tomorrow, I'll get a bunch of ends and make my own cables. The ones on the 39 right now are carbon core, which doesn't seem to work extremely well, plus they are bright yellow! I know the woven cotton covering is correct, but at least some black metal core cables will look and work better until such time as I can spring for the correct version.
