Both the 1937 Shop Manual and the National Data Service manual describe the procedure of diagnosing the performance of the generator
"Run the engine for several minutes at the equivalent of 30 mph".
OK...does anyone have a tachometer in their 1937 Super Eight?

My wife is skeptical of me sitting on the fender...hood open while she drives down the road.

It's not all that critical, anywhere between 1200 and 1500 rpm should be quite appropriate.
