Does anyone have an exploded view of the starter on a 31 833?
Also can I take the starter off a 29 and put it on the 31?
They look the same.

Thanks in advance.

The two starters in question should be Owen-Dyneto DM-693 and DI-850. I can't tell you if they are interchangeable, they certainly are different units. But just 5 minutes with a couple of measuring tools should give you the answer.

Hole in the crankcase is the same size, lockbolt is the same. Pretty much all 29-39 senior starters will interchange mechanically.. Solenoids are simple.

The starters look identical. Even the casting numbers are the same on tail shaft housing. Can someone please tell me how to replace the Bendix spring? I know removing the 3 screws on tail shaft housing allows it to come off but it pulls armature and all.

Thanks in advance.

If I swap starters do I have to change solenoids as well?

As i said, all solenoids for all those years work the same. Without my seeing what you have and what you intend to use there is no way for anyone to know.. Even if you gave me the years, many have been altered/substituted/exchanged
