I never understood why these Concours shows have cars parked around a body of water where the land slopes down towards the water. Pretty dumb if you ask me.

I disagree with you guys. I have attended prestigious car shows - on pretty spectacular grounds. Some involved being near water - others on sloping ground. Or both !
My own personal prejudice is that many of these "costume-jewelery" restorations are done for people who like to show off their cars, but have little or no interest in the cars as cars. Sure - those of us who are personally involved with our cars do EXACTLY what Owen suggested - leave em in reverse. And since we actually LIKE our cars, they FUNCTION AS CARS! Meaning their hand-brakes work! Of course, as Owen suggests... those of us who care about our cars carry wheel "chocks" and use em at the slightest HINT of an uneven surface..! I could bore you guys silly with stories of what I have seen down thru the years at the prestigious car shows...of owners of the cars actually annoyed when put in a position to demonstrate some function of their "costume jewelry". Of course it is unfair to judge this particular situation; be assured I don't buy pencils unless they have erasers ! Humor me by letting me relate one story - was exhibiting my early Rolls "New Phantom" ( also known as the Phantom 1). Alongside it was another P I that put mine to shame ( and mine was pretty nice). Judges asked the owner to start it. Well..they first had to find him at the bar where he was telling other exhibitors he owned a Rolls Royce...... When told what they wanted him to do...he looked puzzled....called around for his "helpers". "start it" himself.......? WHY, he asked. Of course he had no clue !

I know the gentleman who owns that car and I can assure you that is not a piece of costume jewelry. Hard to imagine under what set of unfortunate circumstances or oversights that accident occurred but it is not because he does not know how to operate a motorcar. Swaggering takes many subtle forms including offended modesty.
