Hi Wes

Thanks for posting this article. Interesting in the list of 1946 Packards to be introduced are a pair of Super Clipper seven passenger and limousine models. At some point after this was published, management obviously decided a cut-rate offering in that segment wasn't necessary.

Note also the purchase of Air-Cooled Motors in Syracuse, N.Y. by Republic Aviation. Air-Cooled Motors was developed from portions of the Franklin Automobile Company to manufacture air-cooled aircraft engines. As is well known, one of their helicopter engine models became the basis for the Tucker engine.

Steve, Yes, a lot of good reading. I found where Packard was waiting on a supply of bearings from GM and also about this new car company starting up called the Tucker.
History, love it.

Well back to reading Automotive Industries, in July 1947 they dropped the Aviation. Had my three screws in my leg removed just before Christmas feels much better. So on with the history.
I believe I found where Packard got there Semi-automatic Directional Signal Switch from. Now if people would only used in todays world!

Hi Wesley

Thanks for posting these items.

The paragraph titled "Independents Increase Share of Car Market" gives an indication of why none of the independent companies managers were interested in mergers when George Mason came around with that proposal in those immediate postwar years. The seller's market was a fool's paradise which would all be demonstrate in a short four to six years.

And, did you note the short article that Japan will soon be making 300 bantom sized automobiles a year? That, and the funny car from Wolfsburg, would surprise a few in short order.

Interesting to find out P had big losses and response was to increase prices to offset which could explain how one goes out of business.
Usually one cuts cost, non-selling models, and offers deals or incentives to improve sales. Fits with my silly management theory. Let me think, Mr. Robberbarron; they won't buy it because it's not pricey enough?
