Cowl is now in place and ready to be attached to the body frame. I am getting close to finishing the tops of the doors.

Hi

That speedster cowl and doors are shaping up very nicely. Would that we all had your fine metal shaping skills.

To give your speedster even more of the look, you might start the search now for a set of these three vent door hood side panels that were optional for the 1929-31 Standard Eights. They were done in the style of the Custom and Deluxe Eight but with three rather than four vent doors. They do turn up occasionally.

Those hood sides are kool. One of the few straight panels that came with this old girl is the hood sides... even the louvers are straight. I will be spending mucho dinaro on other parts first. Disc brakes and and chrome lead the list.

I posted my brake system and the chassis oiling system for sale... trying to raise a little cash for chrome.

I do like the hood sides!

I have been designing a disc brake conversion for the 30 Packard this past week. I plan on driving this car and that includes stopping even down a back side of a mountain.
I pulled off one front drum and one rear axle. Pulling the hub from the axle took a lot of heat and pressure.
My plan is to use Wilwood 14.25" hat style rotors. I will make an adapter that uses the seven rivet holes left after removing the drums from the hubs. The large rotors gives me room to adapt to the hubs.
6 piston calipers up front and 4 piston calipers out back will squeeze the the rotors. I will remove the backing plates and use the axle housing mounting holes to mount the calipers. I will make the brackets out of steel.
I will mount the master cylinder under the floor in front of the drivers seat so I can push it with a custom shaft linked to the existing brake pedal.
The system will have a proportional valve and residual valves so the brakes will work very well
I plan on documenting my progress on the brakes here on my build blog. Who knows maybe I'll make a few sets of extra brackets and adapters and sell to others who would be so inclined.

I talked to Eric a Wilwood technician about my design and my plan is solid. The master cylinder with a 7/8" piston will be good as long as the pedal ratio is 6 to one. 7 to 1 will require a 15/16" piston. I have to go measure the distance from the middle of the pedal pad to the pivot shaft and the distance from the middle of the tab off of the bottom of the pedal arm to the pivot shaft and see what the ratio is. The rotors, calipers and brake pads are good to go. Listed below are the Wilwood part numbers I'm going to use.

Rotors 2 x RH. # 160-9787
Rotors 2 x LH. # 160-9788

Calipers front
RH. # 120-11778
LH # 120-11779

Calipers rear
2x #120-12501

Brake pads
# 150-8855K

Stay tuned for the master cylinder part number

Street price for complete conversion estimated at $2500 plus adapters and brackets

Total cost $3500 plus blood, sweat, tears and acetylene.

Good!

I have 4-wheel disc brakes on my 1956 Panther Project. Before that I did front disc brakes on my 55 Patrician which I've been driving for over a decade.

Here's how I did it:

Nice Craig...

I did hours of research to find an available solution for a 1930 Packard with no luck. I did find several solutions for newer Packards. I had not seen this one before.

I got a few hours this weekend to work on the Packard project. The cowl got mounted to the body frame. The body frame is ready to mount to the frame and the rear of the body frame is getting built. I still have the last tube to put across the rear. Then I will have a lot of welding and grinding to finish up.
