The wires in Turn Signal Controller are in bad shape so I figured I would replace them. How hard could that be?
Well it turns out you have no clear access to the connectors so it looks like splicing in on the old wires would do the trick. But since I've got it out this far, I might as well go all the way.

First I drilled out the two pins. pulled it apart and took lots of pictures. then found out I had to drill out two more braded pins which looks like it might had been a mistake.

Okay now that I got it apart, I'm thinking the far left bottom wire is suppose to be yellow, the one on the right side is the black wire and the one that is top on left side is the green with black traces on it. According to the wiring schematic.

Wes, thanks for posting. I believe that same switch was used 42 thru 49 22nd series. Maybe on 41 Clippers too. Doesn't look too complicated so knowing what is inside should help many avoid replacing the switch. Is there enough clearance to put it back together with screws and nuts or will it need rivets again?

Howard, I'm thinking maybe pop rivets on the outside and maybe two small screws, taping threads for the inside. See picture with red arrows.

Okay, I got the wires replaced and inserted some pins. Next I braded the ends, don't look to good but I think it will hold.
I used the smallest pop rivets to hold the unit together and mashed the ends down a little more.
Checked it on the bench and electrical checkout checks good, mechanical checkout checks good. ready to be put back in.
I'm calling this done.

Good Evening all...We have replaced the directional switch in our 1949 23rd series and it looks very similar if not the same as yours and has the same 1943 stamp on it. Ernie in Arizona...

I wonder if there was some kind of delay with turn signal changes just as there was when they made the R11 OD changeover after a few months production of the 22nd series. Does your car have one or two bulbs in the rear tail light housing?
