I seem to have misplaced misposted my last attempt at asking a question. Let me try again.

I'm looking for pictures of the rocker shaft assembly of the 320 engine for a friend of mine. I'm finding it difficult to explain without good pictures.

If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

The 320 V8 or the 320 straight 8? If the V8 there is a good picture in the shop manual.

Sorry. The straight 8. I'm not a V8 person. I guess I didn't even know Packard had a 320 V8.

OK, I'm somewhat familiar with the 320 Eight engine, have owned one for 40+years, been thru 2 rebuilds, and have diassembled a few others. I have spare rocker assemblies in the parts bin for a 1934 and could take some pictures if needed, but what specifically about them were you interested in? I guess you know 34 was after the conversion to forged rockers from the stamped ones.

Yes. The guy has a 38. I would like to show him the assembly procedure. The sequence of pieces etc. An assembly diagram would also work I think.

Mine experience is with 1934. Earlier years are similar (though may have stamped rocker arms), 34 thru 39 the same I believe. It should be obvious by looking at the assembly that it's all pressure lubricated so don't forget to insure that all the drilled oil passages line up properly and are clean and free of obstruction. If memory serves me, the oil feed is at the far ends of the housings via oil feed holes in the block that line up with an extra hole in the housing between the two hold-down studs which feeds the corresponding hole in the shaft. It's probably a bit extreme to pull the plugs at the end of the rocker arms themselves to clean them. On occasion, especially if oil pressure has gotten low and the car kept in use, the pins and rollers will begin to show wear which can become a major source of loss of oil pressure. Egge has replacement pins and rollers though just plain, no needle bearings as original.

I appreciate your comments OD. I have had several of the 320s apart and simply haven't taken the time to take pictures. However, I was hoping to find an assembly illustration to share with my friend.
