Got the fender bolts installed using the retaining clips from Restoration Specialties. Had to use course carriage bolts rather than fine. Friends are lined up and we're going to hang the doors tomorrow. Quick measurements indicate that the front of the doors may have to be adjusted outward slightly.

Got the front fenders mounted yesterday. Not the easiest task I ever encountered!

Got the wiring harnesses made for the headlights, parking lights and horns. Covered with split braid sleeving rater than electrical tape and heat shrinked at the ends. Each component carries its own ground wire that will give a direct electrical connection to the positive terminal of the battery. The harnesses were routed and secured to the drivers side where they will be terminated to a barrier terminal strip for the lights and the horn relay. Wiring for the horns was terminated to the horn relay and the horns and relay tested OK. More pics on PC blog.

Joe, since you have disassembled this car and you are putting it back together what do you think of the original workmenship and build of the Briggs body and Packard design of the automobile. thanks Looks great!

Terminated the headlights, parking lights and turn signal harnesses and tested all the components for proper operation. Moving on to the rest of the under-hood wiring.

Nice and neat but I don't see any headlight grounds so are you doing something different for the reference ground where the headlights, generator and voltage regulator normally connect at the terminal strip mounting screws? Regulator needs a good reference to the generator and that grounded location at the fender also benefits the current sensing and overall headlight and parking light brightness.
IMO, one of Packards less than stellar practices was in grounds. Postwar until 55 there was no good solid ground connection between the battery cable ground point on the block and the sheetmetal other than that generator ground wire. Linkage, sheetmetal fasteners, steel and pot metal are what was used before Packard added a strap in 55. Those are usually less than optimum paths for parking and tail lights. Lights can stand a little extra help from a ground strap between the fender or body and somewhere near the battery ground cable termination.

Howard,
I was going to put the headlight ground wires on the vacant terminal on the block but just bundled them with the other 4 individual ground wires from the parking lights and the horns. They are in the bundle below the colored wires and all 6 wires are connected to a buss (picture) that will be connected to the positive battery terminal. All the electrical components in the car have individual ground wires giving them an electrical connection directly to the battery, no chassis grounds. I'm also using a 6V positive ground alternator so there is no generator or regulator. PackardInfo must have been down earlier today and I couldn't get on. I want to send you a PM regarding the kick switch wiring for the OD. Joe
