In a way, bumping this thread back up...

But, to answer an earlier question - yes, the spark plugs are Metric. They are Champion W16Y plugs.

Does this shed any additional light on whether this is a '29 Speedster engine or not? thanks so much, Wes

If you read Packard's booklet "Supplementary Information on Packard Eight 6-26 Speedster", it notes that the Speedster uses metric (18mm) plugs, all other 6th Series models used 7/8 NPT plugs. So apparently, if nothing else, you have a Speedster cylinder head.

Measuring the camshaft lift should be helpful in determining if it is a Speedster engine block.
