If I recall correctly the steering idler arm is disconnected and the pressed steel lower flywheel cover must also be removed. You may need to turn the engine so that the front connecting rods are in position to allow space between the pan and the front crossmember. Sometimes the front engine mount has sagged and the front of the engine will need to be raised to remove the pan. All in all is a fairly simple job, once the car is raised. Be careful with this and make sure jack stands are stable and secure. Of course the best way is to you have access to a lift.
