Took the car out for 1.5 hour drive on Sunday, the water temp was 10 degrees higher then normal, I suspected it was time to flush the cooling system. When I got home the radiator puked out quite a bit of oily sludge. I suspected the oil cooler was leaking as it was repaired 5 years ago when the engine was rebuilt. ,After disassembly I was able to confirm the oil cooler was leaking, and I estimate it put a quart of oil into the cooling system. I have a replacement cooler, tested and not leaking. I ordered the required gaskets from Olson's today. For a final FU to me the car had a flat left front tire when I went into the garage to tear it down. I hope to have it back up and running before the weekend.

Look on the Positive side. At least the tyre did not go flat whilst you were 150 miles from home, with pouring rain and bad attitude drivers all around. Peter T

I'm impressed that you were able to work around those fenders. It's really hard to access the engine on my dad's 1938 with those things in the way.

Engine looks really nice.

The fenders on a 1935 are not as tall as on a 1938

Update. After I replaced the oil cooler, everything seemed fine, until the replacement oil cooler failed, this allowed most of the coolant to enter the engine crankcase.this happened overnight, not during operating the engine. I had the original oil cooler repaired, pressure tested, and changed my engine rebuilders recommended oil from Fischer Classic Car Motor oil SAE 20/50, to Valvoline VR1 SAE 30, I also reduced the oil pressure a bit. I have taken the car out 3 times now, and everything seems to be in good working order. I will say that the second time around, even having to make my own gaskets, as ordering new ones was not on my time table, I able to make the repairs in 5 hours less. Practice.
