Packard is credited with creating the "H" pattern shift, but Osborne says the 1901 Winton had this feature. Who was first?

He could have also mentioned the 1903 transcontinental drive of the Packard, Old Pacific, which was the second car, after the Winton to be driven coast to coast.

Donald Osborne served as the Santa Fe Concorso master-of-ceremonies for two or three years. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining.
