Scored a tractor engine yesterday. Cheap. It's off the truck. May have a line on a parts tractor about an hour from here.

I know, they aren't Packards, but they're L-head engines and of the same era.

I did inquire after a parts cars. It's kinda far away but the price is very reasonable. I'm trying to talk my nephew into making an uncle-pays-expenses road trip to collect it. We'll see how that goes.

Unlike Ethyl the Cat, he can drive . . . .

Are they Hercules engines? We had a 4-cyl Hercules in our 1956 Chris Craft Cavalier (sort of like a Packard) which we later changed to the 6-cyl version, both inline flatheads.

What I have deduced so far, they're Ford engines. Like half of a 239 v8. Even a few of the parts interchange.

My forst Ford ever.

It's been a busy last several weeks. The new job is going along swimmingly - they haven't second-guessed me yet. I hardly know how to act. Everything here is a matter of settling into the New Equilibrium.

I'm too far away from almost all of my projects. I find this annoying, but then again, my energy level on days off has been sapped somewhat, like as not because of adjusting. So it goes. But I do miss being micromanaged by Fred.

Haven't been able to get my hands on that parts car I've been watching. Finally heard back from them yesterday - first time in weeks. Getting rid of the car isn't a priority, apparently, so I reckon that my getting it shouldn't be, either. It'll happen when it does and not one second sooner. Still looking for a LWB Clipper driver's side front fender among other things.

Meanwhile, the relentless quest for spare parts and salvaging tidbits that can be used continues unabated . . . .

It's been a bad year for Fred's old horses out on the farm. She lost another one last night. Poor thing basically just lay down and died. The vet came to assure he wasn't in pain. He was a very good soul. More people should be like him. I just wish that we had gotten another visit.

The Landlady had rotator cuff surgery on Monday. We call it Chickenwing. She's doing as well as can be expected.

Went for a ride today. Scored a 356 head and a 288 head and an oil pan for Allah knows which engine. All for cheap. This guy was happy that the stuff was going where someone knows what it is.

Going for a ride tomorrow. Two engines, two transmissions, some axle parts and some front suspension parts. He made me an offer I don' refuse. Truck is cleared out, and we'll hitch the trailer after sunrise. Should be home before dark, I reckon.
