TOM: Good Luck on painting your 31. Spraying with today paints, without proper breathing protection can cost you your life. Go to your local supplier of body shop materials and tell them what kinds of paints you are using. Ask them to recommend what type of breathing mask you should use, and purchase a good supply of filters to go with the breather mask.

John,

I hear you on this new paint.

My brothers and I work for a petro chemical company and they offer anyone that does painting, staining etc. at home a mask and filters. So we are good on that end.

Plus what fun is it if you let someone else do it for you.

During the week I installed some new air pluming in old Bessie's garage. I went with Schedule 40 PCV rated at 450 psi. I know some may say I should have gone with Copper or Black Iron but with the tools and resources I have PCV was the easiest for me to install.

Now to get the body and primer work done then I can try out my new spray gun.

Been awhile since I have updated my blog so here is where I am ay.

Had some setbacks today I went to do some final 400 sanding on one of the doors. Placed it outside on some saw horses and low and behold lower half of door where I had done some bondo work (I used Evercoat Extreme and some Metal Glaze) it has Spider Webbed on me.

I sprayed some w&g on it as highlights the cracks
First picture is before I stripped it back down to bare metal the second picture is after I went to the home store and picked up 60 grit stripping disc for my 4 1/2" electric grinder since my little air die grinder was sucking up may to much air for my compressor to handle.

After 2 days of filler/sanding/filler/sanding I have my first coat of Epoxy on the doors.

This was sprayed with a Mini HVLP Shop Tool 1.0 tip spray gun. I have to say this little gun sprayed pretty well. A little orange peel but that is probably due to my settings and first time using it.

What you all think?

Here is a door sprayed with Epoxy out of my new Devilbiss GFG-670G "Plus"

Doesn't look to bad. Some OP but not as bad as the HF gun I had been using.

Tom,

I was also thinking of buying that same Paint Gun as it is a RP (Reduced Pressure) Gun.

I was a little spoiled in my Auto Body class as my instuctor would bring in SATA Guns from his shop for us to use, and the school had HUGE natural gas driven compressors that never lagged.

I thought the GFG-670G would be a good gun for me to use at home as it comes with 3 tips, and would be ok for my home compressor setup. I am going to do all the primer on the car, and also spray the color on the interior parts, trunk and door jams. Then I will take it to a shop with a proper paint booth to shoot the exterior color coats.

So far I have read pretty good reviews on the GFG-670G, so that is why I a curious as how it works for you.

BigKev,

So far it is has been a good investment (even thou I have only used it once so far). You will be amazed the difference in how it sprays compared to the lower end guns. One thing it is on the heavy side but for me I won't be doing the car all at once so weight won't be too much of a factor. Like you I don't have a huge compressor so looking at all the other guns that are out there this one also was the best for my air consumption.

What I need to do is get some scrape steel for test spraying and to get it dialed in.

I can almost see the light for color soon :)...Now I just need to decide on the color scheme. I already purchase a gallon of SS black. Do I go Maroon again, Packard Blue or Green, a Mahogany that I saw at the shop that did my metal work????
