Even three years after the start of the so-called Shanghai Campaign, which led to the communist takeover of the city in May 27, 1949, receipts with the name Mark Moody in the header still went over the counter in Red China.

well. There is a book briefly explaining about this.

Indirectly, I can largely confirm the events

It is a rather short book, but the story aligns. (His dad wasn't as well-off, so he bought a Studebaker instead. Not a good choice as it turned out)
