I own this car now. It went through several more owners after the OP and somehow found its way down to Henderson, Nevada. That's where I bought it in 2022. I have it in Flagstaff, Arizona now.

It still had all the aforementioned electrical problems. I'm a skilled electrical engineer though, and I fixed everything. Somebody overloaded the back seat cigar lighter who knows how long ago. The heat melted a bunch of wires together inside the chassis harness, so things were shorting and cross-feeding into each other intermittently. Darn near lit the carpet on fire. Rebuilding that section of the harness fixed everything. I found other unscrupulous electrical "repairs" under the dash and under the hood that are all fixed now.

No more twist-on wire nuts, electrical tape, or plastic butt connectors in this car! I solder, heat shrink, and dry vinyl wrap everything.

Oh, and the brake light switch was getting unreliable and sometimes the TL wouldn't work. Several NOS switches failed in short order, so I made my own adapter plug that converted the original switch plug without any modifications to a 1970's Volkswagen switch. Works perfectly.

Poor old girl. She's doing much better now.
