Unless someone were to make an educated guess (perhaps a work-shift code, for example), I doubt there are any records to indicate what the A refers too, if anything. The other is a casting date and casting number. You asked this question already and probably already got all the answers there are for it! T54869 is, of course, a 6 cylinder 115-C engine per the engine reference chart found here in the Literature Archive. If it's not on the chart, it's probably not known.
