Hmm, interesting to me. Not sure what to look for in terms of shrinkage. For fun, I put the old guide in ice. After an hour, it's shrunk a tiny amount to .6325".
My poor drivers... the Goodson pilot left the chat trying to drive out the third guide that broke. The top of it mushroomed significantly, and I managed to strike my thumb multiple times (but not the block or studs, so that's a win?) That guide's land remained intact. The other guide, the eBay special, didn't mushroom on top, but the guide land did. The much bigger top meant the hammer never missed. The pilot bent somewhat but did not break. I wouldn't buy the Goodson driver again. I did buy the eBay driver again. I'm going to call Charod on Monday morning and see if he can give me dimensions on their guides. Egge lists the diameter of their guide at ".63." Definitely not going to try to get these NOS guides in anymore. Third guide is out... had to dril out the center and extract. This assignment has just been something else. And to think the intake guides were all done.in an hour. Ugh.

I think there are a couple of potential issues. 1. The driver is not adequate. 2. The guides may be just slightly oversized.
I had our local machine shop make this driver for me after being warned about cheap drivers not working. I also made up a guide to hold the driver at the correct angle and used my 5 lb sledge hammer. Nice solid direct hits and they slid out, and back in, like butter. Happiest day ever, as I had tried a few other methods unsuccessfully before I got to this point. You'll get there!! ![]() ![]()
