I have a RHD 1938 Eight Model 1601-D and the throttle return spring is missing and I can't see where it should be located. Could somebody post a picture of where it should be.

Thank you.

Roger

No idea how many RHD cars or owners of one might be around to check but until someone else with better knowledge of prewar cars chimes in, the parts manual has a photo of a LHD spring. While it is a different part number and you may not have a full cross shaft, the way the RHD spring is listed using the same illustration as reference makes me think there might be some similarities.

You might look carefully at your accelerator linkage and the connection to the carb to see if there is any resemblance to this LHD version. In the LHD application the spring is on the end of the cross shaft assy in the area circled in red. I don't know if there would be a full cross shaft on a RHD model but do remember a post a few months back where someone had a spring where either something was broken in the spring or spring somehow became disconnected from the shaft..

Thank you for that. Now I know what I should have been looking for I realise that the spring is not missing at all but that linkage isn't set up correctly allowing the accelerator pedal to go 'over centre' and stopping it from returning.

Hope it is a simple adjustment and if you have the opportunity, could you post a photo showing the RHD setup so we can see how much difference from the LHD layout there might be.
