My mechanic performed all the steps noted in my last post, so I cannot say. He spent several hours of his time and my money attempting to make the Carter carb work before I saw the writing on the wall - and with a brand new Daytona carb on hand, I decided to have him make it work. He was more than willing to spend as much time as needed to make the Carter work - professional pride and ethics and all that (and I suspect he would have eventually prevailed), but that old carb is hard to support now; leaving it in there and somewhere down the road having to deal with it with even fewer resources available is not attractive to me. The Carter makes a nice conversation piece and will live out it's days on a shelf in my garage. Thanks for the suggestion.
